Why did I start Steampunk Philly?

As a Production Designer and Props person with a love of the Victorian times. My wife is a professional Costumer specializing in period clothing. This is a passion for us. We knew a few people that had similar interests but were very new to the community. To help them and others that we met at a local event I decided to do something about it. We will be having our first official meet up in Philly at the Museum of Art.

The group is open and encourages those outside Philly itself to participate. As a source of places to see and things to do that apply to a group like this, Philly is a great place. This part of the country is rich in history and in subcultures.

To answer some questions:

Do you live in Philly?
No, I live locally but not in Philly.
Why did you pick that name?
Steampunk and Philly say a lot. If I want to go do something unique I run into Philly.
If I am going to a Museum or friends are going to a club...its Philly.
Why did you start this?
No one else had and there are people interested but there was no local based group.
Are you trying to start a Steam Society of such in Philly?
Not really, if someone wants a Tea Society or a Air Ship Crew, I have no plans to
start one in Philly right now.
Why do you list things outside Philly?
Because not everyone lives in Philly! There is a lot to do in the area and the name
  SteampunkPhillyandsurroundingareaincludingnewjerseydelewareandmarylandnewyorkcity
  was a bit long ;)

A case in point: a DJ I know lives in Philly but has a gig in another
town. A bunch of us all drove from 4 different towns in the area to support him.
